introduction to Photo Emulsion Silk Screen Printing
Come and learn how to silk screen print! In this one-day workshop you will learn how to make photographic stencils for screen printing and print your work on some lovely textured art papers.
In the morning you will be making some screen prints, initially you will be working with chinagraph pencils and some Indian ink pens to experiment making simple photographic stencils that you can then experiment printing.
After this we will then move on to a two colour landscape print, this time you can use some collage alongside the chinagraph pencils and pens to create your landscape print. We will then be printing this onto some paper - you will make a small print edition of your work. - please feel free to bring an A4 sized landscape photograph to work fro if you'd like to or I am happy to provide some images to work from.
Once you have built up a bit of confidence, we will then have approximately 2 / 2.5 hours after lunch to develop something a bit more personal through your print making. Feel free to send me ideas before the workshop so that I can advise you on how we make your ideas into a print.
Source materials to develop your ideas will be provided but feel free to bring your own images to work from. We will be using water based acrylic printing ink during the day. There will be a number of silk screens with different colours to work on through the day. Wearing old clothes is advisable or bring an apron.
We will have a short break for lunch of around about 30 mins – please bring a packed lunch with you. Tea and coffee and biscuits will be provided though the day - please note that it is Art weeks that week so we may have some people dropping in to visit my exhibition through the day.
